Today marks the beginning of week four summer vacation. An entire month of sleeping in, playing the wii, playing webkinz, and watching TV. Last week I saw a post on my sister's facebook on Operation Summer. Curious I clicked on the link. It's suppose to offer weekly ideas to make summer vacation fun and memorable for both kids and MOM. I asked my sister, does it work for us nondriving moms. It totes to be ideal for both the stay-at-home mom and the working mom; however, both those categories have one up on this mom - they can drive.
My sister said, Yes even you can do this. So next question, What kind of activities do they suggest? Answer: I don't know it hasn't started yet. Hello? My girls have been out of school for three weeks by the time this does start up, we'll be back in school (55 days from now). Our first month of summer vacation:
Week One: Start off with a bang and host a slumber party for 12 year old's birthday. During the week, walk over to Play-n-Trade and buy a new game for the wii. [Note to self: playing wii games may cause some little girls to yell out, Now I have to get this stupid guy a HAMBURGER!]
Week Two: Attend Phoenix ComiCon and ride the lightrail for first time. Want to interest girls in geekfest, bribe them with train ride. Both would love to go a second time if they happen to get Rick Riordan. [Note to self: Taking nongeeks to a ComiCon may be hazardous to pocket book.]
Week Three: Go swimming at the Goodyear pool for the first time since living here. It only took ten years. Both girls had fun and can't wait to go back. Well checks and camp paperwork filled out. I think we've signed away my daughter's first born whenever that may happen. Pack for camp and walk to store to buy stationery. Do not see hubby who is working over time to pay for his new toy, an ipod. {Note to self: Will preaddressed, stamped envelopes really get a 12 year old to write letters home?]
Week Four: Send 12 year old off to camp. [Note to self: Will 9 year old know what to do with an entire week of no big sister to annoy?]
Operation Summer sends an email out on Sundays. Since I am prewriting this, I haven't gotten an email yet. I think it is starting up today. I'll let you know if the ideas keep the Little One happy while her sister is away. In the meantime, enjoy my summer tanka.
Summer has arrived
Temperatures begin to rise
Lazy days are here
Running, swimming, climbing trees
Thoughts of fall a distant dream
