I walked over to pick the Little One up after school, because her older sister had book club Wednesday. When the Little One saw me waiting, she ran over. "I got Ramona books!" I put in a book order about 3 weeks ago. As luck would have it, they arrived one day before the scholastic spring book fair opened.
She pulled out the books and unwrapped them before we had even gotten off the school grounds. Then she started to page through them, placing her face right in there. "I love the smell of new books."
Ah yes! Definitely a girl after her own mother. I just love new books. Their feel, their smell, their promise of adventure. Both girls are always telling me to get my head out of book du jour. My oldest one is a veracious reader too. But she asked me one time after I finished reading a book in two days, "Don't you hate reading so fast?"
"No it's a good book."
"But aren't you disappointed when it's done? There's nothing to look forward to."
This may be true but then you're ready for the next big adventure. The scholastic spring book fair opened yesterday, and my oldest already came home with three new books. There is a rule when the book fair arrives at the school: Mom gives money for books on library day. This is where the book fair is held and they get to look at the books when it is their library time. If the girls want to buy books before or after that day or if mom doesn't give them enough money for the books they want, they have to use their own money. Yesterday was not my daughter's library day. She spent $15 of her own money on books. Yes I'm one proud mom.
