I was reading a book recently and the mom in the story was explaining that she had one child because she knew that she would not have the patience, strength, or energy for any more than that. She went on about the advantages of only experiencing each life stage once and how you really have to be present for it or you will miss it. There are no second and third tries. She said that some of her friends told her that they found it difficult to find enthusiasm for second and third times around of the same event that they were excited for the first time. Her friends told her that she was lucky that she didn't have to listen to sibling squabbles. I guess there are advantages to having just one, but not for me.....
This morning, our 6 1/2 year old (we all know that 1/2 is important at this age) came into our room to show us that her tooth had fallen out. She was so excited that her tooth was out as the neighbor friend who will be in her class this fall is trying to pull out tooth #7 on a daily basis. And I was completely excited for her. I was excited to be experiencing that moment with her. And I realized how blessed I am that I get to celebrate things three times (well, except the terrible threes which have never been pretty at our house.)
Kathy Schlaeger lives with her husband and three daughters near Cincinnati, OH. She has already taken several pictures of her daughter's missing tooth this morning.

I think 2 at least to keep our houses happy.

I saw your website. I really liked the pictures. It made me realize too that our stories are similar around the world. Children are funny and always doing something to make us laugh.
Thanks for writing. I enjoyed your website!
