Sunflower Sprouts

So, we planted some Sunflower seeds about a week ago and they're already coming up. There is something so absolutely satisfying in watching what you planted with your own hands come to fruition.  It's awesome.

Just went out and bought a whole slew of seeds today, mainly herbs. A few tomato plants. Can't wait to get started on those!

Of course, the girl will help with all of this :)

It's so unfortunate that we, as a society, have become so far removed from the actual process of growing food. I'm trying to move away from that myself, and become more aware of the process and so that my daughter knows food just doesn't come from the supermarket.

I love eating what we grow. I have more artichokes right now than I know what to do with! It's gratifying when I see them for $4/each at the store, and not have to buy them for an artichoke pesto fix!

I went seed crazy this year, too. We don't have the sun for a garden like I'd want, but we planted our entire side flower bed in potatoes and garlic, even naming the potato plants. Fattie, One-eyed Willie, Spuds, French Fry, Salty, etc.
We're also doing a sunflower house! I'm blogging about it (and other such get-back-to-nature activities at www.outdoormama.blogspot.com).
Kudos to you for making your daughters get their hands dirty. They'll thank you someday.
