Read any good books lately...?

So many books, so little time!  I know, I find myself saying this quite often.  Even if I can find just 15 minutes a day to cozy up with a good book, I'm as happy as a lark.  However, if I do NOT get my reading in daily - it shows!  I become quite grumpy and feel lost.  I remember the day when I could sit and read a whole book - in one sitting!  That was back when I was a teenager and had hours and hours of free time.  But now that I am a mom and a writer, well, where do the hours go?

So, I just finished reading a really incredible book by mom author Martha O'Connor entitled The Bitch Posse.  A really awesome read - however, if you are not into "dark" novels, this may not be for you.  I enjoyed it and I also enjoyed chatting with Martha during our interview on Mom Writer's Talk Radio a couple weeks ago.  She is one fabulous lady!

I recently ordered the new memoir by Janice Erlbaum entitled Girlbomb: A Halfway Homeless Memoir.  I have heard so many great things about this writer and I'm sure her book will be a huge success.  Best to you Janice!

OK.  Hope to hear more great book suggestions!

Happy Reading and Writing,

Paula

My Manuscript is being read - Part 2

Hi again,

I heard back from the publisher who was reading my manuscript.  He didn't buy it but he did have some nice things to say!  He said, "You're writing style is very good, and the word count of your mss was a good length for a CPB.  I also liked some of the elements you selected to include in the story that make for really good visualization like the several imaginary characters.  Many CPB writers fail to remember that the story is ALL about the illustrations and what a good artist can bring to life in the story.  You did a good job on giving a potential artist things to work on and pull from."  He also gave me some suggestions on how to polish it some more before I submit it to the next publisher on my list.  I am encouraged by this and excited to continue with this project!  Wish me luck!

My manuscript is being read...

I am so excited that I just had to share this with everyone!  I actually have publisher reading my first picture book manuscript!  He is not reading it necessarily with the intent of publishing it for me, but he has agreed to take a good look at it and give me constructive feedback so that I can polish it into a more "publishable" manuscript.  Up to now, the only comments I'd gotten were from my family, from friends, and from my writing support group so to actually have a publisher read it is very exciting for me.  And who knows?  He may just love it so much that he's got to publish it himself, right?  Hey, if we can't dream, what can we do?  I'll keep you posted!

Happy Friday everyone!
