Happy Fall

Hello there fellow Mom Writers and Happy Fall!

Can you believe it's Fall already?  Since my daughter was born 18 months ago -- the days, weeks and months just seem to fly by faster than ever before!  It seems like just yesterday I was holding my sweet baby girl in my arms -- now I'm barely holding my little girl's hand when she's toddling down the sidewalk!

I am truly blessed to have my beautiful daughter in my life -- and am grateful that she has given me so many wonderful things to write about.  I'd like to say thank you to Paula for giving me the opportunity to write for MWLM -- what a fantastic publication, and talented group of mom writers!  I feel so lucky to be a part of this wonderful group of women!

Hi Everyone! I made it!!

I originally planned on joining in our blog fun on Friday, so I am only a couple of days late! :)

I only had a few delays, which included:

  • My son losing his second tooth (he just turned 5 last week).
  • My son swallowing his second lost tooth.
  • Writing a note on behalf of the Tooth Fairy to a very upset little boy.
  • Picking up the soccer uniforms on behalf of my out of town husband with two very cranky kids in tow.
  • Celebrating my grandmother's 80th birthday. You've never experienced a Mexican food dinner, until you have experienced it with an 80 year old German grandma.

I am very excited to get to know the other members of the MWLM team, as well as our readers.

Have fun everyone!

Alana

Here I am...

So THIS is a blog!!!

The blog monsters were out to get me this week, but I defeated them and here I am!  You might have already guessed it, but I've never blogged before (honestly I thought I had promised to not blog in my wedding vows...but that was something else I guess) so this is one gigantic experiment for me.  I've read blogs before and know that a lot of people use them to express strong political viewpoints so I've been wracking my brain all morning for something controversial to say and the best I can come up with is, "Generally speaking, I'm against strong political viewpoints."  Kidding, of course.  But I don't have many, so my blog will have to stick to the mundane, milktoasty life of a boringly happy writermom, which is what I am.  So I can say, without a doubt that I'm happy to be here.  And here's why:

1.  My oldest won her first competitive basketball game last night, despite the fact that Hubby is coach and, being a Shrinkologist, is hardly one of those vein-popping, throat-ripping screamers (a fact that's been subject to some controversy among the more die-hard parents on our team).  Apparently, saying "I believe in you," "You can do this," and "Good job" can occasionally work (and it helps that half the other team was at Back to School Night).

2.  My middle child got kissed for the first time...on the elbow...in preschool.  He seriously likes this girl.  But he didn't share his strawberries with her at lunch, so I know it's not love.  Good, because there just weren't any decent china patterns at Dillards.  I checked.

3.  My youngest woke up happy this morning and stayed that way for a full seventeen minutes.  That's a record for him.  And see how much I can type in seventeen minutes?  He also hasn't flung himself down a flight of stairs yet today, so I'm thinking perhaps he's finally learned to traverse them safely.  But, then again, he's only been awake for seventeen minutes.

So yes, I am happy to be here and hope you continue to let me blog with you...if I can find my way back in tomorrow.

Hello and Welcome

Hello everyone!

I'm very excited to be a part of such a wonderful group of Mom Writers and hope that all of you are enjoying the wonderful package of writings that we're putting together every quarter.  As webmaster and senior editor at MWLM, I have the pleasure of reading everything beforehand and creating the layout for all the articles, but I still find myself going back and reading the features and columns after the magazine is online.

With this Fall 2005 issue of the magazine, we've added this BLOG feature to facilitate communications between Mom Writers and readers.  I hope you'll take full advantage of it.

If you have any comments or suggestions about the website , please feel free to send me a note at webmaster@momwriterslitmag.com .

Happy browsing!
